The Fangchengbao brand was officially launched by BYD in June 2023. The brand name translates literally to Formula Leopard, representing a combination of precise engineering formulas and wild feline agility. BYD established the brand to capture the expanding lifestyle market for customized, tech-forward off-road utility vehicles.

Fangchengbao operates in the professional off-road and specialized crossover segment. Positioned between the premium Denza line and the ultra-luxury Yangwang brand within BYD's brand hierarchy, Fangchengbao delivers rugged mechanical capability, elevated engine output, and modern digital connectivity for adventurous car owners.

The brand's breakout vehicle is the Bao 5, also known as the Leopard 5, a midsize body-on-frame hybrid off-roader praised for its impressive articulation and trail performance. The lineup has expanded with the flagship Bao 8 SUV featuring advanced driver assistance technology, alongside the compact Bao 3 crossover and the radical Super 9 speedster design study.

The primary engineering breakthrough powering Fangchengbao is BYD's specialized DMO Dual Mode Off-road platform. This super-hybrid architecture utilizes a longitudinally mounted internal combustion engine, dual electric motors, electronic differential locks, and a protective Cell-to-Chassis battery placement integrated into the ladder frame.
