The Denza brand was founded in 2010 as a fifty-fifty joint venture between Chinese automaker BYD and Germany's Daimler AG, now Mercedes-Benz Group. Over time, BYD systematically increased its operational influence, raising its equity stake to ninety percent in 2021 and officially acquiring the remaining ten percent in September 2024 to make Denza a wholly owned subsidiary of BYD.
