Daewoo Cielo I gallery (1994–2007)
The first generation of the Daewoo Cielo, a further development of the Nexia based on the Opel Kadett E, was produced starting in 1994.
The Daewoo Cielo is a licensed version of the German Opel Kadett E, adapted for global markets and produced by the South Korean manufacturer. The model received a recognizable streamlined body design available as a sedan and three- and five-door hatchbacks. The engine lineup included reliable 1.5-liter gasoline engines with multi-point fuel injection, paired with a five-speed manual transmission or three- and four-speed automatic gearboxes. The car gained significant popularity due to its structural simplicity, availability of spare parts, ease of repair, and durable suspension featuring front McPherson struts and a rear semi-independent torsion beam. Over the years of production, the vehicle underwent localization at various Daewoo plants worldwide, including Uzbekistan, Romania, and Egypt, where assembly continued long after production ceased in Korea. During upgrades, engineers redesigned interior components, improved driver ergonomics, enhanced passive safety features, and introduced new trim options. In different markets, this model was sold under names such as Nexia, Racer, Cielo, and LeMans, ensuring strong sales for the brand in developing countries.
