The eleventh generation, which switched to front-wheel drive and the K-car platform.
A completely new approach to the New Yorker concept: the car became significantly more compact, lighter, and more efficient. The use of front-wheel drive and four-cylinder engines marked the final departure from the traditions of full-size rear-wheel-drive sedans of the brand.
