Launched in early 2023, the BYD Seagull is an entry-level subcompact five-door electric hatchback positioned within the automakers Ocean series lineup. Engineered on BYD dedicated e-Platform 3.0, the car features a rigid unibody structure optimized for city maneuverability and passenger protection. Traction is provided by a front-mounted electric motor delivering either 55 kW or 75 kW mated to a single-speed reduction gear transmission. Energy storage is handled by Blade LFP battery packs with capacities of 30.08 kWh or 38.8 kWh providing effective driving range for daily urban commutes. Power is delivered strictly to the front wheels. The interior incorporates modern ocean styling cues, a 10.1-inch rotatable touchscreen display, digital instrument cluster, climate controls, and smart phone connectivity. The Seagull achieves strong sales figures in China and is exported globally across Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Europe under the Dolphin Mini badge. The model represents a significant engineering achievement for BYD, combining refined driving dynamics, low running costs, and comprehensive safety features across all production trim levels.
