The first generation BYD Qin sedan debuted in 2013 as a pioneering plug-in hybrid model that launched the brand's Dynasty series and replaced the earlier F3DM sedan.
Introduced in late 2013, the first-generation BYD Qin sedan marked the debut of BYD's Dynasty product line and succeeded the pioneer F3DM plug-in hybrid. Built on an evolved front-wheel-drive platform shared with the Surui, the vehicle featured MacPherson strut front suspension and a torsion beam rear setup. Its four-door sedan body incorporated bold front styling and distinctive full-width rear taillights. Power originally came from the Dual Mode plug-in hybrid system pairing a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor to generate a combined output of 295 horsepower, mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. In subsequent years, BYD added all-electric variants named Qin EV equipped with lithium iron phosphate and NCM batteries providing ranges between 300 and 480 kilometers, alongside standard gasoline versions. The interior boasted a digital instrument cluster, a large central infotainment touchscreen, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a surround-view camera system. Primarily targeted at the Chinese domestic market, the Qin was also exported to Latin American countries, achieving strong commercial success as a benchmark plug-in hybrid.
