The BYD Mako compact utility pickup truck entered the market in 2026. Designed as a lifestyle-oriented unibody ute, it sits below the larger ladder-frame BYD Shark 6, sharing its fundamental architecture with passenger crossover models for car-like ride comfort and handling. The vehicle features a double-cab four-door configuration with seating for five, mated to a practical rear cargo bed equipped with tie-down anchors and a bedliner. The powertrain utilizes a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) flex-fuel setup, pairing a 1.5-liter engine with an electric drive motor to produce a system output of 175 kW. Power is stored in a BYD Blade LFP battery pack, enabling an electric-only range of approximately 100 kilometers and a combined driving range over 1000 kilometers. The modern interior comes equipped with a digital gauge cluster, BYD signature rotating touchscreen running the DiLink system, smartphone integration, and essential ADAS safety features. The Mako specifically targets South American, Southeast Asian, and Australasian markets.
