Manufactured from 2014 to 2017, the BYD G5 compact sedan offered advanced onboard technology, including an Android-based CarPad multimedia platform and turbocharged performance.
Debuting at the Chengdu Auto Show in September 2014, the BYD G5 was introduced as a compact four-door sedan replacing the G3 within BYD's lineup. Positioned between the F3 and the larger G6, the front-wheel-drive sedan utilized an updated platform with MacPherson strut front suspension and a torsion beam rear setup. Its 4.7-meter body showcased a modern exterior with a prominent chrome grille, sleek halogen headlights, and integrated LED daytime running lights. Power was exclusively supplied by a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four gasoline engine producing 154 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque. Transmission choices included a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The G5 was notable for its rich technology suite, featuring an Android-powered CarPad infotainment system with Wi-Fi connectivity, a built-in dashcam, remote keyless control, digital instrument displays, and automatic climate control. Produced in Shenzhen through 2017, the G5 targeted tech-savvy budget buyers in the Chinese domestic market.
