The BYD e1 electric city car was introduced in 2019 as an accessible five-door urban hatchback that launched the manufacturer's dedicated e-series vehicle line.
Unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2019, the BYD e1 entered production as an all-electric microcar launching BYD's e-series product lineup for urban mobility. Built upon a modified platform derived from the earlier F0 city car, the front-wheel-drive hatchback features MacPherson strut front suspension and a compact rear trailing arm setup. Its five-door body measuring 3.46 meters long was updated with distinctive closed-off front grille styling, LED headlights, and optional two-tone exterior color schemes. Power is generated by a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor producing 61 horsepower and 110 Nm of torque. A 32.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack yields a rated driving range of up to 305 kilometers under the NEDC standard, supporting DC fast charging from 30 to 80 percent in 30 minutes. The interior features a digital instrument cluster, a signature rotating 10.1-inch DiLink infotainment screen, a rotary gear selector, and electronic air conditioning. Manufactured in Shenzhen, the e1 was produced through 2021 and saw extensive deployment in Chinese car-sharing fleets and urban commuter segments.
