BYD D1 I gallery (2020–present)
Co-developed with ride-hailing giant DiDi in 2020, the BYD D1 electric compact MPV was specially engineered to optimize passenger ride-sharing and taxi services.
Unveiled in November 2020, the BYD D1 was created through a joint venture between BYD and ride-hailing operator DiDi Chuxing as a purpose-built electric compact MPV. Built on a dedicated front-wheel-drive EV platform featuring MacPherson front suspension and a torsion beam rear axle, the 4.39-meter vehicle stands out with an innovative asymmetrical door design: a power sliding door on the right side for safe passenger access and standard hinged doors on the driver's side. The tall single-box MPV body maximizes interior volume and visibility. Drive is supplied by a front electric motor generating 136 horsepower and 180 Nm of torque. A 53.6 kWh Blade LFP battery provides an estimated NEDC driving range of 418 kilometers. The interior prioritizes rear-passenger comfort with expansive legroom, seatback entertainment displays, USB charging ports, folding bag hooks, and durable upholstery, alongside an ergonomically designed driver seat for long working shifts. Assembled in Changsha, the D1 was widely fielded across taxi and ride-hailing fleets in major Chinese cities while also becoming available to private fleet buyers.
