About this generation

The second-generation BAW 212 debuted in 2024, replacing the classic design with a modern body-on-frame platform offered as an SUV and a pickup.

The second generation of the iconic Chinese off-roader BAW 212 debuted in 2024, marking the first complete generation change in the sixty-year history of the original model. It is built on an all-new, rugged ladder frame that keeps solid axles front and rear, a part-time four-wheel drive, a low-range transfer case and mechanical locking differentials. The range has grown: besides the five-door SUV, the family gained a utility double-cab pickup (factory index P01) with a wheelbase of more than 3.4 metres.

The new generation gets modern powertrains: a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a torquey 2.3-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel producing 190 hp and 500 N·m. Both are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Ground clearance reaches 250 mm, giving excellent approach and departure angles for heavy off-roading.

Compared with its spartan predecessor, the second-generation interior offers a fundamentally different level of ergonomics and equipment. The car features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, comfortable heated and ventilated seats and modern driver assistance, including a surround-view camera and a suite of active safety systems.
