Baojun is a mass-market brand under the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture, known for accessible urban electric cars and smart compact crossovers.
The Baojun brand was established in 2010 by SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile, a joint venture combining SAIC Motor, Wuling Motors, and General Motors. The brand name translates from Chinese as Treasured Horse, representing mechanical reliability and accessible consumer value for working families.
Baojun was initially developed to market affordable internal combustion passenger cars, entry-level sedans, and compact MPVs. Over the past decade, the brand successfully repositioned itself as a modern maker of smart urban electric vehicles and distinctive compact crossovers tailored for tech-conscious drivers.
Early commercial success was driven by popular internal combustion models like the 510 and 530 crossovers and the 730 MPV. In the electric era, Baojun gained widespread international attention with innovative urban EVs, including the rugged Yep micro-SUV, the spacious Cloud hatchback, and the futuristic KiWi EV city car.
Baojun's compact electric cars utilize the GSEV Global Small Electric Vehicle platform engineered by SGMW specifically for high-efficiency urban mobility.
