Introduced in 2010, the first-generation Audi A7 Sportback (C7) entered the executive four-door coupe market with great acclaim. Utilizing Audi's MLP platform, the A7 combined a flowing roofline, frameless side windows, and a practical rear liftback tailgate. An adaptive rear spoiler automatically deployed at speeds above 130 km/h (81 mph) to enhance aerodynamic downforce.

Powertrains for the C7 included 2.8 FSI and 3.0 TFSI V6 gasoline engines alongside smooth 3.0 TDI V6 diesels. Power was routed through Multitronic CVTs on front-drive variants or 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmissions paired with permanent quattro all-wheel drive.
