V8 Supercar Championship Will Be the First to Host New 5.0-litre Volvo with V8 Engine
Generally eco-friendly Volvo with its conventional engines for four cylinders has announced a new eight-cylinder 5.0-litre model to take part in V8 Supercar Championship.
The prototype of the new engine is V8 with 4.4 litre capacity also found in S80 and XC90 models. It was designed and specially boosted for racing purposes to take part in Polestar Racing for Volvo S60.
The only performance features made public are those of the engine: it will have eight throttle bodies, be supplied with heads of aluminum, present a compression ratio of 10:1, and ignite by coil-on-plug system making a special sound.
Christian Dahl, Managing Director of Polestar, reported that some simulations made with high revolutions and trial runs for long distances revealed great performance figures. He also pointed out that the engine would be made fit for cars which would participate in the races with accordance to the schedule for pre-season development.
