Record Number of Cars was sold by Volvo Last Year
Volvo got rid of more than half-a-million vehicles for the first time in the 89-year-old history last year.
Totally, the Swedish producer sold 503,127 items in 2015. In such a way its operating profid was tripled from $250 million (or 2.128-billion SEK) to $780 million (or 6.620-billion SEK). Volvo is currently owned by China’s Geely. It has rebounded perfectly well with the XC90 turning in 88,000 offerings by the end of the year. A third shift to the Torslanda plant in the home country was added not long ago. Volvo has hired 1,500 workers more in order to keep up with the growing demand.
The manufacturer wants to double its annual sales to almost 800,000 cars a year in the medium term. Volvo revealed its innovated V90 station wagon as the 3rd vehicle built on the SPA (Scalable Product Architecture). The SPA also underpins the S90 sedan and the XC90.
The automaker is planning to open a new plant in South Carolina after $500 million investment. The facility’s building started in the second half of 2015. Volvo plans to finish it by 2018.
The president and chief executive shared that he is pleased to state that last year was a record year of sales and profits. Now the company will step into the next phase of the global transformation. Soon it will become a truly global premium vehicle producer.
