Rear-End Crashes will be Reduced by 41 Percent Thankfully to Volvo City Safety System

The IIIHS has conducted a research on Volvo‘s City Safety system.

Regular on all vehicles sold in America, this system has got a host of safety technologies (for example, forward collision warnings and automatic emergency braking). IIHS has discovered that the system in 2010-2012 XC60 and 2011-2012 Volvo S60 vehicles reduces the rate of rear-end crashes with third-party involvement by 48%, injuries to occupants by 47% and rear-end crashes by 41%.

The non-profit independent organization came to the conclusion that “City Safety is very efficient in reducing rear-end crashes and injuries even with speed limits bigger than its operation range.

The automaker continues to enhance the system. Such function as animal detection with autobrake will be presented in the next year’s Volvo S90 sedan. Intersection braking will be introduced in this year’s Volvo XC90. Volvo’s Vision 2020 states that no one should be killed or injured in an innovated Volvo by 2020.

The CEO of Volvo Car USA stated that they are looking forward to future researches that will prove even greater effectiveness.
