VW Unveils a Striking Hybrid Truck Created from a Sedan and an SUV
Introducing the Pickup Truck
This peculiar vehicle, aptly named the "Pickup Truck," is a rare gem that was custom-built and not intended for mass production. It is the result of combining the VW Taigun SUV with the VW Virtus sedan, handcrafted by students specializing in mechatronics.
A Unique Collaboration
Under the guidance of Skoda and VW teams in India, talented mechatronics students took on the challenge of creating a truly original hybrid vehicle. Leveraging existing components from the Taigun crossover and Virtus sedan, they painstakingly merged these two vehicles into a cohesive whole.
Eye-Catching Details
In order to give the Pickup Truck an imposing appearance, the students incorporated additional elements. This included 3D-printed parts, a snorkel, fender flares, and extensive plastic body cladding. The vehicle also boasts a suspension lift for increased ground clearance and is equipped with an LED light bar on the roof. To complete the rugged look, it features striking body graphics and rugged, beadlock-style wheels.
Challenges and Compromises
While the Pickup Truck may turn heads with its innovative design, it did come with some trade-offs. Due to its origin as a crossover and sedan combination, the rear overhang is notably elongated, making for an unconventional appearance. Nevertheless, this unique hybrid remains a testament to the ingenuity and creativity of the student builders.
The Pickup Truck is not the first noteworthy project completed by these mechatronics students. In the past, they also crafted a remarkable four-door convertible, although it too never reached the production stage.
