2017 Phaeton from Volkswagen can receive a Plug-In Hybrid System
According to the last report from Germany, Volkswagen is going to offer a plug-in hybrid option for its 2nd-gen Phaeton full-size sedan.
Automobilwoche writes that the innovated Phaeton will get a more economical variant set using a plug-in hybrid arrangement. Though, the sources do not make the things clear with its availability. It is also revealed that the MLB-based flagship offering from the company will be launched in the end of 2016 or even at the beginning of 2017. America and China will be its main markets.
The much spoken about Phaeton will be possible to obtain with the recent 6.0-litre W12 twin-turbo engine. This engine is capable of producing 608 hp (or 447 kW) and torque of 900 Nm (or 663 lb-ft). With the help of these characteristics, the Phaeton will be able to squeeze 26.4 mpg UK (11 litres / 100 km or 22 mpg U.S.) in the combined cycle.
The company’s insiders hint that the automaker’s chiefs see the innovated Phaeton as a rival of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class while the next generation Audi A8 will compete with a BMW 7-Series.
