Tesla Launches More Affordable Cybertruck Model
In the midst of tariff uncertainties and a significant drop in sales, Tesla has introduced the latest iteration of its Cybertruck. This new model is the Long Range single-motor variant, serving as the entry-level option in the Cybertruck range. However, it doesn’t come with a typical base-model pricing. Including destination charges, the price stands at $71,985.
So, what features does this price include? This most affordable Cybertruck offers the longest driving range among its peers, estimated at 350 miles on a single charge. This is roughly 25 miles more compared to the All-Wheel Drive version, which is priced $10,000 higher. The single motor powers the rear axle, and while Tesla hasn’t disclosed the exact horsepower, it states that the truck can accelerate to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds. Additionally, it comes equipped with a locking rear differential to enhance traction.
Standard Features and Specifications
The standard package includes textile seats made from durable cloth material, featuring heating capabilities but lacking ventilation. The audio system is scaled down to seven speakers, compared to fifteen in the higher-end models. The truck is fitted with 18-inch wheels on all sides and no longer includes the powered tonneau cover at the rear. Similarly, the numerous 120-volt power outlets have been removed, though Tesla provides an adapter for the charging port that offers two outlets if needed.
The air suspension has been replaced with adaptive coil springs, meaning the ride height cannot be adjusted. A towing package is included as standard, with a maximum towing capacity of 7,500 pounds. This is still substantial, allowing the vehicle to haul campers or boats with ease. The cargo capacity is rated at 2,006 pounds, which is impressive, though the AWD version can handle up to 2,500 pounds in its bed. It appears that the base model maintains steer-by-wire controls with both front and rear-wheel steering.
Optional Enhancements
Customers can choose to upgrade to 20-inch wheels, although this will slightly reduce the vehicle's range. An optional soft tonneau cover can be added to the bed to increase the range to 362 miles when paired with the smaller wheels. The Full Self Driving package is available for an additional $8,000, and accessories such as a sunshade, underseat storage, and floor mats can be included for under $300 each.
Comparative Pricing with Competitors
When lined up against other electric pickup trucks, the Ford F-150 Lightning starts at $65,190 and features a dual-motor setup. The Chevrolet Silverado EV offers a single-motor 2WD trim starting at $57,095. Meanwhile, Rivian’s R1T begins at $71,900, equipped with a dual-motor powertrain that delivers 533 horsepower.
Tesla has indicated on its website that the base Cybertruck model is expected to become available between June and July of this year.
