Subaru and Toyota will create Next-Gen BRZ
A report suggests that Toyota and Subaru are going to create and produce the next-gen BRZ, FR-S and GT-86 sports vehicles together.
Automotive News received information from the Subaru chief about cooperation between the two brands. Though, the schedule has not been approved yet. The automaker’s boss revealed that they agreed to do a full model change.
Having the fact that Toyota is already developing a facelift for the GT-86, we assume that the next-gen sports cars will probably be presented in 3 years. The companies have not given any technical information yet. We only know that the models are going to keep their rear-wheel drive.
In 3 years Subaru wants to present its first plug-in hybrid offering. The model will be positioned as a zero waste compliance play. The green car will be probably kept out of Japanese market nevertheless hybrid cars account for almost 18% of Japan’s light-car market.
Now Subaru came up with two hybrid offerings that can be obtained in Japan. They are the Impreza Sport hybrid and the XV Crosstrek Hybrid equipped with a 2.0-litre DOHC motor. The horizontally-opposed engine combines its work with an electric mill.
