Subaru WRX Sales Plunge Over 70 percents as Contrasting Trends Emerge in Other Models
Subaru's Overall Sales Performance in May
This May, Subaru reported a 10.4% decline in total vehicle sales compared to the previous year. Several models experienced significant drops, reflecting a challenging month for the brand.
DRAMATIC DECREASE IN WRX SALES
The Subaru WRX faced the steepest decline, with sales plummeting by 71.2% month-over-month. Only 482 WRX units were sold in May, continuing a downward trend from last year where sales decreased by 24.7%.
Year-to-Date WRX Sales
For the first five months of 2025, Subaru has sold 6,081 WRXs, a 23.6% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.
BRZ Achieves Significant Sales Growth
In stark contrast to the WRX, the Subaru BRZ saw a substantial sales boost. May sales surged by 43.6%, totaling 326 units, and year-to-date sales have increased by 24.6%, reaching 1,459 units.
Performance of Other Subaru Models
Alongside the WRX and BRZ, other models exhibited varied sales performances:
- Legacy: Increased by 17.4% in May.
- Crosstrek: Rose by 14.1% in the same month.
- Ascent: Experienced a decline of 32.8% in May.
- Outback: Dropped by 32.1% in May.
- Solterra: Decreased by 19.4% in May.
Overall Year-to-Date Sales
Despite the setbacks, Subaru's total sales for the year up to May have shown a slight increase of 3.0%, with 275,260 vehicles sold in 2025.
