2026 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Debuts Enhanced AWD Models with Boosted Performance and Updated Pricing

Porsche continues to evolve its iconic 911 range with unwavering consistency. Building upon last year’s updates, the manufacturer has recently unveiled the latest all-wheel drive "S" variants, which encompass the Carrera 4S coupe and Cabriolet, as well as the Targa 4S. These models promise increased horsepower and a greater array of standard features, coupled with a notable rise in pricing.

Enhanced Performance Specifications

Mirroring the rear-wheel-drive Carrera S coupe and Cabriolet, the newly launched all-wheel drive editions are powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine that delivers 473 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. Porsche attributes the power boost primarily to the integration of intercoolers borrowed from the 911 Turbo. Interestingly, the horsepower aligns with that of the previous Carrera GTS models, though the torque output is slightly reduced. Consistent with its rear-wheel-drive counterparts, the only available transmission is an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch system, with the manual gearbox reserved exclusively for enthusiasts targeting the Carrera T and GT3 models.

Upgraded Features and Options

The 4S variants come standard with a Sports Exhaust system and enhanced braking components inherited from the older Carrera GTS model. Additional standard features include adaptive dampers, a rear limited-slip differential, and 20/21-inch wheels. Optional upgrades offer sport suspension, rear-wheel steering, the Sport Chrono package, and carbon-ceramic brakes. Notably, the Targa 4S model includes rear-wheel steering as a standard feature.

Refined Interior and Comfort

Inside, Porsche has increased the amount of standard leather trim and incorporated the latest interior upgrades seen in the refreshed 911 lineup, including the somewhat controversial digital gauge cluster. The coupe variant is now standard as a two-seater, with the 2+2 seating configuration available at no additional cost, and this option is standard on both the Cabriolet and Targa models.

Market Positioning and Pricing

In the United States, Porsche reports that roughly half of all 911 "S" model sales are all-wheel drive, underscoring the importance of these new additions to the lineup. Previously, the entry-level all-wheel drive option in the facelifted range was the hybrid Carrera 4 GTS, making these new models a valuable entry point for enthusiasts. However, these enhancements come with a price premium. The preliminary pricing for the 2026 Carrera 4S coupe starts at $156,450, which is over $16,000 more than the 2024 version, though Porsche notes that prices are subject to change. The Carrera 4S Cabriolet is expected to be priced at $169,650, while the Targa 4S will start at $171,350. Despite the higher costs, Porsche anticipates strong demand, as the new 911 models are likely to continue outpacing supply.
