Interrupted Plan of Mitsubishi to Receive a Rebadged Renault-Nissan Mid-Size Sedan
Mitsubishi has stated that they will not receive a rebadged Renault-Nissan soon.
The company cooperated with Renault-Nissan alliance for working on a joint venture project in November of 2013. The project was aimed at getting several rebadged sedans and some other vehicles. The automaker is aware of them being in dire need of a portfolio enlargement, but it looks like it will not be possible soon since the plan was “stalled”. The information comes from Don Swearingen, the executive VP of Mitsubishi Motors in North America.
North American dealerships were calmly waiting for one of the vehicles which was supposed to be of a mid-size (D-segment). This expectation lasted for a long time. Swearingen did not go into the details and stated at a NADA meeting that their plan has reached a stalemate. He announced that every option is still available after the dealers meeting, but did not elaborate on the matter.
It is not known now either the disagreement is handcuffed to the mid-size sedan or to the whole partnership. The partnership covers few new schemes including shared products, producing capacity and technologies.
