Meet the GT S DTM Safety Car from Mercedes-AMG
DTM Safety Car is a new name for the GT S from Mercedes-AMG.
The GT S DTM pace car from Mercedes-AMG will replace the C63 AMG Black Series coupe from Mercedes-Benz. It will be presented at the Lausitzring Speedway on the weekend. The model will remind the road-going production version.
The AMG GT S is a safety vehicle in Formula 1, so the DTM Safety Car has been converted for safety-car duty. There is a small light bar which is posed to the carbon fibber air intake on the roof. Moreover, there are a rear wing and front splitter from the offering’s optional Aerodynamics Package. As to the cabin, the DTM Safety Car can boast racing seats, a flat-steering wheel, special radio equipment and six-point harness.
Speaking about the powertrain, it will be the same as the production AMG GT S. The 4.0-litre turbocharged eight-cylinder engine will generate 510 hp. Energy-efficient LEDs are fast-responding. They will perform all signalling functions on the light bar. The head- and taillights have a stroboscopic effect which helps the vehicle to be more conspicuous on the track.
Jürgen Kastenholz will be driving the AMG GT S. He will take to the track during the dangerous moments. Safety vehicles from BMW and Audi will be shown during the DTM season too.
