Will New Mazda Rotary Engine produce 450 HP?
Mazda made a preview for a possible rotary revival at this year’s Motor Show held in Tokyo with the RX Vision Concept. Gossips about a new production rotary motor are spreading on the Web.
Motoring reports that the production rotary engine will be presented in 2017 at the celebration of the company’s 50th rotary anniversary year. The new production offering will be equipped with a bigger, twin-rotor 1.6-litre 16X engine porting a twin-800cc rotor set-up producing 450 hp. The Japanese brand is supposedly working on a two –stage turbo system that benefits from electric turbocharging in order to provide high performance in the lower rpm band ahead the exhaust-driven turbo overcomes it at higher revs.
Therefore, the latest Skyactiv-R rotary engine is expected to spin more than 8,000 rpm and have higher fuel efficiency than the automaker’s previous rotary motor.
Expect the RX-9 sports vehicle to ride with a dual-clutch gearbox. It will be integrated into the rear axle. In such a way, weight distribution will be improved. The production RX offering will benefit from lightweight details. Thankfully to this its weight will stand at 3,100 pounds. Therefore, the next-gen Mazda RX sports vehicle could become a rival to Porsche 911 offerings. Let us wait and see.
