Mazda Plans Top US Sales by 2016
The new Mazda’s CEO hopes the company will hit record U.S. deliveries in the next two years due to increasing demand, new vehicles and a smaller cost structure.
Masamichi Kogai, CEO of Mazda Motor Corp., wants to see U.S. deliveries hit 400,000 models in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2016. Driving the surge and boost in sales will be the new Mazda3, which went on sale this fall. Kogai also believes that Mazda can increase its U.S. market share to as high as 2.5 % in that period. Nowadays, the Japanese company’s market share in the U.S. is 1.9 % through October 2013.
The target is surely ambitious, taking into consideration the sales record for Mazda in the U.S. is now at 379,882 – set in 1986. Previous year, Mazda delivered 277,045 vehicles in the U.S and so far sales are up 5 % this year at 240,228 models through the first 10 months. However, for the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2014, Mazda wants to deliver 300,000 models which is a reasonably achievable goal.
