Maserati comes up with Plug-in Hybrid Cars After Saying EVs Were 'Nonsense'
Though the CEO assured that EVs were “nonsense”, Maserati is going to develop EVs to its range by 2020.
Almost 3 years ago the boss of the company got us acquainted with his reluctance to electric cars. According to him, statistics suggest manufacturing, powering and disposing of electric offerings resulted in more CO2 than the most efficient combustion-engine vehicles. He also was sure that if the brand needs a realistic solution, then the regulators have to be more honest in calculating. Besides, he added that EVs are not the answer.
The Italian company is going to show plug-in hybrid versions of the current Ghibli, GranTurismo, Quattroporte and GranCabrio offerings in order to meet emission numbers by 2020.
Reports suggest that the coming-soon Maserati Levante SUV will be sold with a plug-in hybrid version. The model was spied testing not long ago. The Levante will come out in 2016.
