GM Fires Executive for Correcting Emissions Testing
GM has informed that it has fired its main powertrain executive, Sam Winegarden, over issues in the American brand’s emission tests in India.
Sources are also informing that along with Winegarden, 10 other GM Powertrain employees have been let go in the U.S. and India, though GM has only announced that it has “dismissed few employees” on the basis that they ignored company policy.
The dismissal is connected to a recent return raised in India for the Chevrolet Tavera, which affects 114,000 cars. The company returned the utility model to address emission and specification issues and according to Indian media, GM mentioned to the government that employees changed emission inspections on purpose to meet specifications.
In line with a statement from India’s Economic Times, GM India employees swapped out motors in the fresh Tavera vehicles for lower-emission motors in order to meet standards. The return is the country’s biggest ever and is GM’s first return in India since 1995.
Winegarden has been the American company’s main motor exec since 2004.
