Brake Failures of Ford F-150: NHTSA opens an Investigation
NHTSA conducts an investigation in connection with brake failure in almost 420,000 Ford F-150 pick-ups.
2013 and 2014 model year trucks that were fitted with the 3.5-litre EcoBoost engine fall under the investigation. It has been spurred by 33 complaints.
Some customers send reports about full brake loss even when the pedal is pressed all the way to the bottom. 4 clients reported that the brake issue ended up in a collision. Thankfully, there were no injuries confirmed.
It is confirmed in the majority of complaints are about brake fluid that leaks to the brake booster from the master cylinder. 31 of the complaints came in 2015, 20 of them appeared during the past 7 months.
NHTSA asked Ford to send them all pertinent papers about the brake issue by April 20. In case the automaker does not manage to do it, it will be fined up to $35 million. The company assures that it is complying with all the demands of NHTSA.
