Fiat Topolino could turn back
A famous classic Fiat nameplate can be brought to life, a new report from an Italian auto blog indicates.
Passione Auto Italiane wrote a short message about a current testing held by the producer. According to the report, Fiat is testing a small car that possibly could transform into a production vehicle with the Topolino moniker. We remind you that the automaker has already begun reusing the Tipo, 124 Spider and 500 names.
A model’s prototype was spotted in the Pomigliano d’Arco municipality (Italy). Fiat has a plant there.
Earlier facts assure that the engineers want a Panda-based vehicle. It will probably have 2 doors and room for 4 passengers. The car will be a rival to the Peugeot 108, Citroen C1, Smart ForTwo and Toyota Aygo.
If you remember, the Topolino was a city car. The brand produced it between 1936 and 1955. The Mickey Mouse could be obtained in a few body guises. They included van, 3-door estate, 2-body coupe and cabriolet. The vehicle received power from a 599cc V4 unit. It was joined to a four-speed manual gearbox that sent power to the rear wheels. The adorable vehicle became one of the most prominent Italian offerings of the time. Its total sales went up to almost 520,000 units.
