2017 Abarth 124 Spider will race in WRC
According to the latest report, the Abarth’s variant of the Fiat 124 Spider is scheduled to see the world in 2017.
A render of the Abarth 124 Spider’s possible outlook was available several days ago. Here are some technical specifications taken from our friends at Piston Heads. According to them, the offering will be equipped with a 1.4-litre V4 turbo unit generating 160 hp (or 119 kW) and 190 hp (or 142 kW). Besides, the company is going to offer a range-topping version. Its engine will be able to produce the excess of 200 hp (or 149 kW).
Probably, it will be marketed with a matte black cowl available optionally. It reminds the Abarth-tuned 124 Stradale homologation vehicle back from the 70s. Rumours suggest that the automaker also plans a hardtop variant. It is going to enlarge brakes, create a more aggressive body and stiffer suspension for Abarth’s variant of the Fiat 124 Spider. By the way, the last one is based on the newest Mazda MX-5.
It looks like FCA wants to race the vehicle under consideration in WRC starting 2017. There is no much information at the moment, but a source from Abarth assures that the car will participate in a new sports vehicle category which will bring back the WRC’s lost fame.
