Ferrari 296 Speciale Unleashed: Enhanced Carbon Fiber, Superior Aerodynamics, Extreme Velocity

While many Ferraris stand out, the Speciale models elevate this distinction further. Introducing the 296 Speciale and Speciale A, the latest additions to Ferrari's high-performance lineup, these models are engineered to deliver an extraordinary driving experience.

At the heart of the Speciale is a potent plug-in hybrid system generating 867 horsepower, up from the standard 818 hp. The 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine alone produces 690 hp, mirroring the 296 Challenge race car. Ferrari incorporates advanced features such as titanium connecting rods, enhanced pistons, a lighter crankshaft, and a Formula 1-inspired knock control system to optimize performance.

The electric motor in the Speciale is also upgraded, contributing an additional 177 hp. Power is seamlessly transferred to the rear wheels via an eight-speed DCT gearbox, with optimized shift points to maximize the enhanced power. Additionally, the plug-in hybrid setup allows for a quiet, engine-free drive for up to 15 miles, perfect for urban cruising.

Both the fixed-roof 296 Speciale and the Speciale A, which features a retractable hardtop, benefit from significant weight reductions—110 pounds for the convertible and 132 pounds for the berlinetta. Extensive use of carbon fiber, especially in the interior with minimalist door panels and a streamlined carbon fiber console, contributes to the weight savings and performance.

The Speciale also features redesigned front and rear bumpers, with the rear incorporating an extremely aggressive diffuser. A new retractable wing emerges from the back, adjusting based on speed or selected drive modes to enhance aerodynamics.

Aerodynamic Enhancements

Ferrari claims a 20% increase in downforce for both the GTB and GTS Speciale models. The GTS additionally includes a headrest flap that directs airflow towards the tonneau cover and reduces cockpit turbulence, while also improving airflow to the engine and brakes.

Performance and Handling

The suspension has been recalibrated for the Speciale, featuring stiffer titanium springs that reduce weight and improve handling. The ride height is slightly lowered, and Multimatic adjustable shocks from the 296 GT3 are incorporated for superior control. Equipped with specially designed Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires and a new five-spoke wheel, the Speciale ensures exceptional grip and a timeless aesthetic.
