Chrysler Investing $266M into 8-Speed Production

Chrysler wants to enlarge manufacturing of its automatic gear box of eight speeds.

The American company has states about its investment of $266 million into the Kokomo Gear Box Plant after they had a ten-year abatement. It was approved by chosen officials in Kokomo, Indiana. The automaker’s eight-speed gear box is developed in Kokomo under license given by ZF and will be given to all automaker’s back-wheel drive cars, not counting Dodge Viper and some heavy-duty pickup tracks.

As Chrysler says, the gear box of eight speeds may help to increase the economy of fuel by 9% in comparison with the older five- and six-cylinder gear boxes. The automaker has invested more than $1.5 billion into the Kokomo factories. Now it is the world’s biggest manufacturer of gear boxes having nearly 7,600 workers.
