Chevrolet SS High Performance Versions: New Details Unveiled
A week ago, GM uncovered a customized variant of its Chevrolet SS model at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, hinting that high-performance versions of its big rear-wheel drive sedan are a possibility.
The Jeff Gordon Performance Concept Chevy SS was constructed with input from No. 24 himself and while its 6.2-liter V8 stays at the stock 416 hp, more powerful variants could be on the way.
Imported from Australia where it’s delivered as the Commodore, models down under are available with 543 hp and even 581 hp!
According to Chevrolet Performance Cars Marketing Chief John Fitzpatrick importing the higher performance vehicles will come down to how successful the current car is. With a sales target between 2,500 and 3,000 models, Chevy would consider more powerful variants for the U.S.
Additionally, while U.S. customers only have on transmission option, a 6-speed automatic, if it’s justified, 6-speed manual transmission models could also arrive in America.
