A DOHC V8 For Corvette In 2018
The Chevy Corvette is waiting to receive an innovated dual-overhead cam eight-cylinder.
An internal GM document about 2018 model year VIN codes was posted to the General Motors Inside News forum. On the page 5 it is possible to find “Passenger Car Engines for GMNA.”
The company states the engine a “GAS 8 CYL, VVT, DOHC, 6.2L, ALUM, SIDI” under the “Y” code. This has to deal with the Corvette family.
Earlier there were internal studies with DOHC heads on General Motors’ venerable small block architecture. However, nothing has appeared of it up till now. It should benefit from overhead cams allowing better breathing. DOHC should give the company more freedom in variable valve timing on exhaust and intake. The pushrod LT1 is terminated to a set valve timing as the single cam shaft reaches exhaust and intake at the identical degree.
We are interested what packages will appear. It is not clear for now how the company is going to fit the bigger DOHC heads under the Corvette’s low slung hood. Besides, the Z06 model is fitted with the LT4 and is equipped with a supercharger along with 2 intercooler bricks located on top of the heads, so it might not be as tight as it is thought to be.
