2018 Sonic Sedan from Chevrolet is being tested in Detroit
The 2018 Sonic sedan from Chevrolet has been spotted while testing. This happened in Detroit.
Even though crossovers become more popular now, the American producer is not going to quit the segment. The next-gen model will be equipped with a new variant of GM’s Gamma chassis. The platform can help to lose weight. The Gamma underpinning is also used for the latest Chevrolet Bolt EV.
It was found out that the prototype reminds of the known Chevrolet Sonic. This means that the latest offering will still rival the Honda Fit and Ford Fiesta in the segment of affordable compacts.
As far as we know, the powertrains will not be noticeably changed. The 2018 offering from Chevrolet is likely to be powered by a naturally-aspirated V4 item or a turbocharged powerplant with small displacement. There also is a chance that the automaker will take the V3 motor from the Fiesta.
However, nobody knows if the company will be manufacturing the model in America. An agreement with the UAW might move production of the next-gen car out of the factory located in Michigan in order to produce a more profitable vehicle. If so, the 2018 Sonic will be gathered together in Mexico.
The presentation is scheduled for the beginning of 2017.
