2016 Malibu Hybrid from Chevrolet will receive Hardware Similar to Volt''s
Chevrolet has told about the net-gen Malibu which will get a hybrid variant with a hardware setup developed from the 2016 Volt.
The model is promised to return more than 54 mpg UK or 5.2 litres / 100 km in combined cycle. The offering will receive power from a new 1.8-litre V4 petrol engine along with a two-motor drive unit derived from the Volt. As to output, it will be 182 hp (or 136 kW) if combined. There also will be an 80-cell 1.5 kWh lithium-ion battery set.
The automaker assures that the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu will be able to reach a top speed (55 mph or 86 km/h) on electric power. Though, they did not say anything about the electric range. The 2016 Volt is able to pass up to 50 miles (or 80 km) before running out of battery.
The model will have the same power electronics and regenerative brakes as the Volt. At the same time the conventional engine will have an Exhaust Gas Heat Recovery package which is able to use the exhaust heat to warm the engine and the cabin from the inside. This technology is able to enhance engine warm up and increase fuel economy. You will especially evaluate it in cold weather.
The producer says that the new Malibu will reach dealerships in spring of 2016 after production will start at the Fairfax Assembly factory placed in Kansas.
