2014 Cadillac ELR Pricing Uncovered
Cadillac’s variant of the Chevrolet Volt will go on sale next January, but dealers could have problems persuading customers to purchase them.
The brand revealed today that pricing will start at $75,985 featuring delivery and without any tax incentives. A maximum $7,500 tax credit can serve to soften that stroke, but just a little bit.
Actually a sportier and more luxurious variant of the Volt, the vehicle comes with a 1.4-liter range-extending gasoline motor just like its much less expensive sibling. For future, Chevrolet will sell you two Volts with change to spare before Cadillac will part with one ELR. Even the Tesla Model S is cheaper with a $71,060 base price also featuring federal incentives.
Adding to the insanity, the only cars in Cadillac’s whole lineup that cost more than the base ELR are a loaded CTS-V Wagon and members of the Escalade family. Even then, the flagship SUV costs cheaper than the ELR. Notably, the Escalade Hybrid carries a base MSRP around $500 lower.
Depending on terrain, the ELR is going to be capable of driving up to 33 miles just on electric power and up to 300 miles with its range extender in use.
“The ELR is a special blend of dramatic style with electric car technology capable of total range in excess of 300 miles,” informed Bob Ferguson, senior vice president Global Cadillac. “ELR is also special in that it will be available nationwide within a luxury client experience, with proven benefits and care extending from the shopping process all the way through the ownership experience.”
Chevrolet’s Volt deliveries experienced intense declines soon after Nissan cut the price of its Leaf electric vehicle, ultimately prompting GM to chop $5,000 from the Volt, which now starts just under $35,000. Details unique to the ELR features innovations like full LED exterior lighting and a Watt’s link rear suspension, a slightly enhanced 294 lb-ft of torque (up 21 over the Volt). It also arrives with wood grain cabin inserts leather and chrome inserts in the cabin as well as Cadillac’s CUE infotainment system.
In a press release this summer the company promised the ELR will get the “agile handling and superior ride that Cadillac clients have come to expect.”
