The 2nd-gen Audi R8 Spyder has been digitally created before its premiere as a 2017MY in 2016.
The automaker will start delivering the new R8 Coupe soon. There is a possibility that most of the work with the Spyder has been already finished. Probably, Volkswagen’s premium brand will not wait too long in order to remove the roof. The digital image shows a possible outlook of the R8 Spyder. This new model will be a little bit heavier than the coupe because of the basic mass added by the complexity of the roof.
There will not be an eight-cylinder offering as the R8 Spyder will be sold only with the 5.2-litre ten-cylinder FSI engine. This unit is able to generate 540 hp and torque of 540 Nm in the base offering. As to the “Plus” specification, it will deliver 610 hp and torque of 560 Nm. The extra weight will negatively influence the vehicle’s performances. Therefore, the vehicle under consideration will be a little bit slower than the coupe. The last one accelerates to 62 mph (or 100 km/h) in 3.5 seconds, by the way. Its more powerful variant does it in 3.2 seconds. In such a way, the car’s top speed will be a little bit lower than 200 mph for R8 V10 and 205 mph for R8 V10 Plus.
There is no information if the fully-electric e-tron variant will be without roof too, but it is known that Audi will eventually allot the 2nd-gen R8 with a smaller engine. It might be a turbocharged V6. Meanwhile, a diesel engine is being considered too.
