Laser Lighting of R8 LMX from Audi
Some of the carmakers equipped their concept cars with laser head lamps, but only Audi ventured for them on a production variant.
R8 LMX has seen the world as a novelty to be checked in Le Mans race. Only 99 lucky ones will become owners of these peculiar cars featuring laser-beams for standard upper beam lighting. Promotional information of the brand regarding the issue is rather confusing because it states R8 LMX to be a unique innovation in terms of laser lamps while the same offering can be found in i8, earlier Audi’s release.
Probably, the company meant that R8 LMX will be the first car to carry laser lighting as standard equipment. Anyway, i8 has not made a dealership debut yet. Notably, vehicles with laser head lamps will not be marketed worldwide because some countries have bans regarding them.
Laser technology is not the only feature making the release interesting. R8 LMX is also distinguished by its shiny blue colour and anode coat on brake calipers. External details are largely borrowed from R8 GT. They include a steady rear spoiler, wings on the front bumper, diffuser on the rear and peculiar mirrors. Inside artificial chamois can be found on the roof accompanied by leather upholstery with blue seams and distinguishing emblems.
Only coupe modification is available for R8 LMX. The car sports a roaring 10-cylinder engine making 570 hp. Gearbox of choice is S tronic for seven speeds. 99 shiny vehicles will become available in the home country in a couple of months and cost almost $290,000.
