Has Audi Developed VW
Reports suggest that Audi developed the defeat device VW used with its diesel motors in order to pass emissions tests. Handelsblatt, a German edition reveals that Audi made the software that turned off some engine possibilities back in 1999. However, the automaker has never used it on its creations.
Citing company and industry sources, the report states that VW developers began installing the considered software 6 years after that. The engineers did it as they could not bring nitrogen oxide emissions below legal limits.
Neither Audi, nor VW commented on the news.
VW investigators say that the German producer used lots of code words for the issued device software. Words “acoustic software” were among them.
Investigators are checking information from more than 1,500 laptops and other devices. They will probably not manage to finish their work till the end of April. The obfuscation and outdated computer systems make it difficult to find evidence.
450 external and internal investigators are focusing on nearly 20 workers issued with the scandal.
