Details about 2.0-Litre Engine of 2016 A4 from Audi
Audi has announced an updated variant of the 2.0-litre TDI engine which will be used in the coming-soon 2016 A4.
The innovated variant of the engine generates less power than the circulating 2.0-litre TFSI. Its output is 190 hp and torque of 236 lb-ft. Though, the automaker assures that the engine will get more power and will be able to offer peak torque from a lower RPM thankfully to an innovated combustion method. According to Audi, it will reach 47 MPG nevertheless that is on the less strict European test cycle.
This innovated combustion method reminds the Miller cycle. It gives an opportunity to increase compression ratios without knocking the engine. This means that each combustion cycle is able to produce more energy.
Audi assures that it is rightsizing the engine rather than downsizing it to reach efficiency. The innovated engine can boast the consumption and takes over a downsizing engine in partial load operation thankfully to this rightsizing approach. It also means that at higher loads the engine has the benefits of a large-displacement one. This information was given by Dr. Stefan Knirsch. He is the Head of Engine Development at the company. Knirsch assures that in the result customers will receive optimal performance characteristics and efficiency across the whole speed line-up.
The engine itself has lost some weight. Now it weighs 308.6 lbs. At the same time new low-friction oil and a plugged-in exhaust manifold also enhance efficiency.
The improved 2016 A4 from Audi is scheduled to premiere at the Motor Show in Frankfurt sometime later in 2015.
