Aston Martin Unveils DBX S: Boosted Performance and Lightweight Enhancements
Aston Martin has expanded its DBX lineup with the introduction of the DBX S, following the discontinuation of the base model that offered only 542 horsepower last year. Previously, enthusiasts were left with the 697-hp DBX707 as the sole variant until now.
The DBX S features a finely tuned twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine that delivers 717 horsepower, thanks to turbo upgrades inspired by the Valhalla model. This slight increase allows the SUV to accelerate to 124 mph (200 km/h) marginally faster, maintaining a 3.1-second 0-60 mph time and a top speed of 193 mph. It remains one of the fastest SUVs, with only the Lamborghini Urus SE edging it out by a mere 1 mph.
To optimize the additional power, Aston Martin has remapped the nine-speed transmission's shift points. When operating in Sport and Sport + modes, gear shifts become more responsive and decisive, complemented by slightly sharper steering with a quicker ratio.
The all-wheel-drive system continues unchanged from the DBX707, capable of directing up to 50 percent power to the front or fully to the rear as needed. The suspension remains the same, building on last year's recalibrated underpinnings, and includes 16.5-inch carbon-ceramic brakes at the front and 15.3-inch discs at the rear.
Externally, the DBX S showcases a more aggressive front splitter and a redesigned rear fascia featuring a prominent diffuser and a cleaner overall silhouette. A standout feature is the new vertically oriented stacked exhaust system, reminiscent of the Lexus IS F, with dual tips on each side.
Weight reduction is achieved through several modifications, including 23-inch magnesium wheels—claimed to be a first for SUVs by Aston Martin—saving 41 pounds compared to aluminum alternatives. A carbon fiber roof, the largest single carbon fiber component ever used by Aston Martin, further decreases weight along with a lightweight honeycomb grille inspired by the DBS 770 Ultimate, enhancing weight distribution. Additional carbon fiber elements, such as mirrors and door sills, contribute to a total weight savings of over 100 pounds, bringing the curb weight down to 4,846 pounds.

However, these enhancements come with a significant caveat: none of the weight-saving features are standard on the DBX S. Elements like the magnesium wheels, carbon fiber roof, and grille are available only as optional extras, which may significantly increase the vehicle's price. This suggests that Aston Martin expects DBX buyers to prioritize performance and features over the SUV's substantial 2.5-ton weight.
While exact pricing for the optional upgrades hasn't been released, components such as magnesium wheels and extensive carbon fiber work are typically expensive. Considering the 2025 DBX707 starts around $260,000, the fully equipped DBX S with additional power and weight reduction could potentially exceed $300,000.
Aston Martin is expected to provide more details later this year, with deliveries for the 2026 DBX S slated to begin in the fall of 2025.
