Unveiling the Morgan Supersport

Morgan is retiring the Plus Six and introducing its new model—the Supersport. While it might appear to be just a cosmetic update, the Supersport is fundamentally a different vehicle. This retro-inspired sports car takes design elements from the limited-edition Midsummer by Pininfarina and utilizes an updated aluminum chassis. It offers a 10% increase in torsional rigidity, with an additional 10% improvement available when equipped with the carbon roof.

The Supersport is a versatile vehicle featuring interchangeable roof options. Owners can switch the fabric soft top with a body-colored carbon composite hard top that weighs 43 pounds less. The coupe includes a large, curved rear window for improved visibility, although many may prefer the sleeker appearance of the folding soft top. Despite being slightly heavier than its predecessor, the Supersport maintains a lightweight profile at just 2,579 pounds, similar to a Miata RF.

Enhanced Performance

Where the MX-5 is powered by a four-cylinder engine delivering 181 hp, the Supersport boasts nearly double that power. It is equipped with a BMW "B58" engine, a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six producing 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. This new Morgan flagship accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 166 mph.

Interior and Features

The BMW influence is evident from the moment you enter the cabin. A modern gear selector for the eight-speed transmission contrasts with the car’s retro aesthetic, reminiscent of the Ineos Grenadier’s utilitarian interior paired with a sleek BMW gear lever. Unfortunately, a manual gearbox option is not available for the Supersport. The wooden dashboard features analog gauges alongside a digital display positioned in front of the driver.

Customization and Options

There are numerous customization options available, including a Dynamic Handling Pack with Nitron dampers and a limited-slip differential. Customers can also choose 19-inch alloy wheels that weigh 21.3 pounds each, which is 2.4 pounds lighter than the standard 18-inch wheels. The body offers an "almost limitless combination" of paint colors, and the door cards are available in 11 different wood finishes.

Morgan is currently taking orders for the Supersport, priced at £85,000 in the UK, which is approximately $110,000 based on current exchange rates. There is no information yet regarding the availability of this rear-wheel-drive model in the United States.
