SUVs help Mercedes to lead American High-End Sales

Mercedes has become the most popular high-end automaker in the U.S. in May. That’s because of the growing SUVs’ and crossovers’ popularity.

Automotive News states that 29,299 cars rolled of the line last month. In comparison with 2015, this is a light decrease. However, the producer proved to have sizable gains in the grooving crossover sector. Sales of the GLC and GLK models grew up by 64%. Meanwhile the GLS and GL marked a 45% increase.

The competitors did not experience such luck as sales of BMW crossovers crawled down by 6%. Lexus’s crossovers climbed 3.4%. The restyled RX helped the aforementioned automaker in that. The month has shown that BMW sales crawled down by 6.4% and Lexus sales plummeted 10%.

Now Mercedes is the best selling high-end producer of the year. It has sold 8,500 cars more than Lexus. As to BMW, it is in the third place.

It is not clear if the two producers will catch up to Mercedes. The German automaker offers a whole line of new models. They include the S-Class Cabrio and the E-Class.
