Ford Focus EV, C-Max Models Pulled Back

Ford is returning around 23,831 Focus Electric and C-Max vehicles because they don’t make an audible door chime when the driver’s door is opened while the push-button start is turned on.

Cars affected by the withdrawal are 2012-2013 Focus EVs and 2013 C-Max Hybrid and Energi models, which nowadays do not play the alert that is required by federal regulation. The regulation was created to prevent drivers with push-button starts from leaving their key fobs inside the car by accident.

Around 22,900 of the affected cars are in the U.S. while the remaining vehicles are in Canada. Ford will upgrade the software on the affected models so that they play the door chime on the push-button start equipped cars.
