Honda WR-V Receives Jeep Cherokee-Inspired Makeover by Japanese Tuner

Japanese tuning enthusiasts never cease to impress with their creative transformations. Following Mitsuoka's reimagining of the Civic with a Nissan Skyline-inspired design, another Honda has been revamped to echo the distinctive look of the Jeep Cherokee XJ.

The WR-V, short for "Winsome Runabout Vehicle," may not make headlines in the already crowded compact SUV segment. Equipped with front-wheel drive and a continuously variable transmission, its standard configuration offers little excitement for enthusiasts.

Exterior Enhancements

DAMD has ingeniously injected personality into Honda’s plain crossover by borrowing styling elements from another iconic model. The modified WR-V now features classic rectangular halogen headlights paired with a Jeep-like grille that showcases six slots, reminiscent of the Cherokee’s design. Additionally, the LED daytime running lights below draw inspiration from the earlier Mercedes G-Class models.

Known for their unconventional projects on the G-Class and Defender, DAMD embraces a retro aesthetic from the 1980s and early 1990s by adding faux wood side panels. At the back, instead of altering the taillights to mimic the Cherokee XJ’s vertical design, DAMD introduces a unique black plastic trim and replaces the Honda emblem with a REVERB logo, highlighting the special edition package.

Structural Modifications

The transformation includes a redesigned, more angular hood and a substantial front bumper. While the stock WR-V isn’t designed for off-road adventures, DAMD has lifted the suspension by approximately 1.4 inches (35 millimeters) and outfitted the vehicle with 16-inch wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A K03 tires sized 215/70 R16, enhancing its rugged appearance.

Interior Customizations

Inside, the modifications are subtle, with the option for customers to choose plaid seat covers that enhance the vintage feel. The checkered pattern extends to both the front and rear center consoles, as well as the seat pockets, creating an eclectic interior. This unusual combination underscores the demand for unique and unconventional custom builds typical of Japanese tuners.
