Honda GT Unveiled with Overloaded Digital Dashboard

The recently launched Honda GT boasts a striking exterior design and an intriguing silhouette, yet its interior leaves much to be desired. While the integration of smartphones is intended to reduce distraction, the multitude of screens raises safety questions. The door-mounted displays linked to exterior cameras and a comprehensive instrument cluster are just the beginning.

Beyond these, the cabin hosts additional screens that seem redundant. A glimmer of practicality exists in the form of physical buttons positioned between the infotainment system and the vertical display adjacent to the gear shifter. The central display incorporates fixed touch controls, but finding appealing features within the cockpit remains a challenge. The most significant issue is the passenger screen, which resembles an outdated tablet with large bezels awkwardly fitted into the dashboard.

Overview of the Honda GT

The Honda GT represents the second wave of models in the Ye electric vehicle series tailored for the Chinese market, following the S7 and P7 from the previous year. Sporting a more streamlined, coupe-like roofline, the GT adds a sportier dimension to Honda's EV lineup. Official photographs reveal two variants: the blue Dongfeng Honda GT and the red GAC Honda GT. These twin models are produced by Honda's joint venture partners in China.

Originally presented as a concept vehicle last year, the GT is now gearing up for production. Ahead of its manufacturing launch, Honda is showcasing the GT at Auto Shanghai alongside other models exclusive to China. Positioned as flagship offerings within the Ye series, technical specifications have yet to be disclosed.

Performance and Specifications

The preceding P7 and S7 models utilize the Honda e:N Architecture W platform, supporting both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. Single-motor variants deliver 268 horsepower, whereas dual-motor options provide up to 469 horsepower. Power is supplied by an 89.8-kWh CATL battery, offering a range of up to 404 miles (650 kilometers) for rear-wheel drive versions and 385 miles (620 kilometers) for all-wheel drive models. It's important to note these figures are based on the optimistic CLTC cycle.

Design and Build

Both the Dongfeng and GAC editions feature two-tone paint schemes and a refreshed Honda emblem that moves away from the traditional rectangular shape. While the primary body panels remain largely unchanged, differences are evident in the bumpers, headlights, and taillights. Consistent with the S7 and P7, the GT's design stands apart from Honda's global models, sporting an appealing exterior. Unfortunately, this aesthetic advantage is overshadowed by an interior overwhelmed by screens.
