Honda and GM Unite to Produce Batteries

Two carmakers announced their cooperation on development of batteries implementing fuel-cell technology.

The companies try to kill two birds with one stone: joint production is less costly, and the volumes of production are larger. Honda and GM aim at partial replacement of gasoline cars with their fuel-cell models at the market. Namely, the brands will be busy producing those parts of the system which help obtain electricity using hydrogen present in the cells and natural oxygen.

General Motors and Honda signed the correspondent contact back in mid-summer. Currently the newly established engineering department is enhancing the process of car production based on fuel-cell technology, and the estimated time of end product release is 2020.

Notably, the plans of Toyota include the presence of fuel-cell car in the lineup by 2015.

Together with some previews of upcoming fuel-cell models, Honda presented its FCEV concept in Los Angeles.
