Volkswagen and Fiat are Discussing Alfa Romeo Sale

One can never completely trust the auto rumor mill; unreliable blogs are ready to post mostly everything to get clicks, which can lead to the wrong and unverified information being gone through as truth. But TTAC has reliable sources (thanks to our EIC Herr Schmitt) informing that VW and Fiat are negotiating regarding the potential sale of Alfa Romeo.

The sale of Alfa Romeo to Audi will also contain the Pomilgiano assembly factory in Naples, which formerly made Alfas, but currently constructs the Fiat Panda. Magnetti Marelli, Fiat’s famous details maker, can also be involved in the deal, as Fiat is looking to raise the cash so it can buy the remaining shares of Chrysler off the UAW’s Voluntary Employee Benefits Association.

Meanwhile, Audi has already settled a presence in Italy with Lamborghini, Ducati and Italdesign. Joining Alfa Romeo and an Italian factory will only entrench its position, and the sale of an assembly plant will be commonly beneficial for both VW and Fiat, as Alfa can save its “Made in Italy” heritage while Fiat looks like a savior by giving the factory and its workers some security. No one knows what VW is going to do with Alfa, taking into consideration its sales result is even bleaker than VW’s weak SEAT auto brand.
